About Orsay Museum

To avoid crowds of tourists, come to the Musée d'Orsay early in the morning on Wednesday or Friday. You can also catch some quiet time on Thursday during extended hours after 6:00 PM.

Set aside at least two hours to enjoy the museum's exhibits.

  • Explore the world's finest collection of Impressionist art

Located right opposite the Tuileries Garden on the left bank of the Seine, the Musée d'Orsay offers an incredible display of art created from around 1848 to 1914. The museum is especially famous for its beautiful collections of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist artworks.

  • See the famous works with your own eyes

Get inspired by the masterpieces of legendary artists — from Monet and Renoir to Gaugin, Degas, Rousseau, Cézanne, and many more. Admire Luncheon on the Grass and Olympia by Edouard Manet, The Starry Night Over the Rhone by Vincent Van Gogh, and The Origin of the World by Gustave Courbet.

  • Discover the history of the museum

Learn more about the fascinating history of the building. The Musée d'Orsay once was a railway station called Gare d'Orsay, and it was the first electrified train station in the world. Find out what was located on the museum's site two centuries ago and how the building became a museum in the interactive VR exhibition.

The Musée d'Orsay is located at 1 Rue de la Légion d'Honneur.

One of the cheapest ways to get around Paris is by metro. The nearest station to the museum is Solférino and is four minutes away by walk. Solférino is also a bus stop, so you can take a bus if you want.

You can also take the RER train to the museum and get off at the Musée d'Orsay station — it is just outside the museum.
